Cosmetic acupuncture is an alternative therapy, also known as natural Botox. On the face, the acupuncturist will insert several dozens of tiny and painless needles. As the needles puncture the skin, they create wounds within its threshold, which are called positive microtraumas. When your body senses these wounds, it goes into repair mode. This is the same idea microneedling uses to get bright, anti-aging results — except acupuncture is a bit less intense, less punctures.
The goal is to improve the skin's appearance by encouraging blood flow, collagen and elastin, which can help reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging. Results can be seen immediately, and the changes will become more significant with further treatments. “You should notice results with several times of treatments. It works internally generating collagen and this makes your loosen skin tighten due to sudden loss of weight or aging.” says Dr Mira, registered acupuncturist.
